An Interview with Author Regena Thomashauer
If you have yet to be unbound by the wisdom of Regena Thomashauer, you will remember this day.
You are about to be "cut loose to celebrate the privilege of being a woman."
You are about to "party with your inner bitch."
You are about to make ecstasy, your reality.
You are about to meet Regena Thomashauer aka Mama Gena of the deliciously notorious Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts, faith-in-women healer, mother, author, teacher, S woman and friend.
Hello Regena. Thanks for taking time to speak with us today. For several years now there has been a sort of sisterhood between Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts and Sheila Kelley S Factor. How did this all come about?
There is definitely a kindred vibe between Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts and S Factor. Sheila Kelley saved my life. At a time when I was in the middle of my divorce, and riding the tidal waves of emotion that ensued, she taught me how to move all that raw passion into, and through my body, and pour it into hot hip-circling movement. She is my sister, my compatriot, my fellow revolutionary. What S Factor allowed me to do is get out of my head, and sink every drop of myself into my body. S Factor is my church. I would not miss my class each week. It is my moment to have a sacred sensual encounter with my soul.
Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts is about cutting women loose to celebrate their privilege of being a woman, as opposed to the cultural inheritance of suffering, which most women put themselves through with endless self-doubt. A woman is a terrible thing to waste on fear, self-loathing and self-hatred. We need a playground for self-celebration. Self-acceptance is not enough. Self-acceptance is so last year. Self-celebration is the minimum daily requirement. All Mama Gena's students are encouraged to take classes at S Factor. And they are able to connect to it quickly because they're already turned on.
How was Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts founded and how did that lead to your becoming an author?
I was teaching classes on relationships, communication and sensuality. And I gave birth to my daughter, Maggie, who is now twelve and feisty. I suddenly felt this obligation to the women of tomorrow. I also had this deep sense of gratitude toward the women who made me possible. So I started researching the ancient goddess traditions, and teaching about the divinity of women, and the pre-patriarchal history of when the goddess was worshipped on this planet. The class was a culmination of all my research in sensuality, the history of the courtesan, and study of pleasure. Since I had just become a mama myself, I called the class Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts.
I started teaching the classes in my home and got some amazing press including an article in the NY Times. That led to a book deal and I was asked to write Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts: Using the Power of Pleasure to Have Your Way with the World. This led to many TV appearances, incredible press, a thriving business, and two more books, Mama Gena's Owner's & Operator's Guide To Men and Mama Gena's Marriage Manual.

What exactly are the "womanly arts"?
Womanly Arts is sensual curriculum for The Pleasure Revolution.
When we are little, we are told the stories of Snow White, Cinderella, etc. We are taught that one day we're going to meet a prince and he's going to know exactly how to make us happy. It sounds harmless, but, actually, it's a set up for an international epidemic disaster. Women think we are supposed to just lie there, unconsciously, like Cinderella, and wait for the Prince to awaken us, and lead us to our dreams. The Prince is actually just a guy who wants to make us happy but he never gets taught how, because women think he is supposed to know already. And no woman is taught to investigate, "What are the components of my ecstasy? Is it poetry? Is it a sunset? Is it a night of kissing up the inside of my wrists?"
This is a huge oversight in female education. And the Womanly Arts is the antidote. We all know that when the momma ain't happy, no one is happy. But, we're not taught how to make ourselves happy nor are we taught that it is right and relevant to tell the guy what will make us happy. This is a whole huge piece of our education that is missing. The School of Womanly Arts is the greatest, most comprehensive, and the most extraordinary educative system for women that is available in the world today. Right now, as a start, you can get a magnificent dose of this material from my books.

What will S women gain by reading your books?
Encouragement to research their own pleasure. And to own that power that is released to them through pleasure. To party with their inner bitch and live her passion. It is my conviction that women are the greatest untapped resource on the planet. It's like each woman has a Maserati in her garage but, we don’t know we have the keys to it. A woman's deepest and most profound gift is HERSELF. The rock concert that it is, to live life, as a woman, is so crazy good. It is our obligation to up the volume on who we are, instead of living someone else's roadmap, which is waaaaaaaay less interesting than our own.
What's next for Mama Gena?
This April, I'm launching a social networking site for our sister goddess community. This is in addition to the interactive components already up on my website and my Mastery Program.
