Alice In Wonderland
You may think you know Alice. The Alice of our youth, the Alice in the lovely blue dress who sips tea and plays with bunny rabbits. This is not that Alice. Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland is older and bolder with a quality unbecoming a young lady - skepticism. Unbecoming as in what was expected of women about a trillion billion years ago. Like getting married to a "good catch," and hoping like hell he'll help us define happiness. The times they can change, and we applaud this literary, confectionary, wonderfully chroma riche movie. Alice, played by one-to-watch Mia Wasikowska scowls and squints, questioning not only where she is - but who she is - and if the answer ain't good enough…if she has to don a suit of armor and fight for a more worthy identity, well then my S friends she'll do just that. Helena Bonham Carter plays the very insecure and venomously mean Red Queen. And Anne Hathaway dreams up a delicate but edgy portrayal of the White Queen who raises the question, "Can a strong woman indeed save the day?" YES.
